Fruitful cooperation

The State of Qatar and the Republic of India share decades-long strategic relations based on mutual interests, trust, respect, and fruitful cooperation, with both nations keen to push these relations to new heights that meet the two peoples’ aspirations. Aligning with the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s keen interest to expand Qatars strategic relations with various active political and economic powers worldwide, H H current visit to India comes at a pivotal moment. As the two sides talks will explore further areas of economic and investment cooperation including renewable energy, financial technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation. The visit is of particular importance, given the distinguished roles both countries play on the regional and international fronts, as well as their massive economic potentials, which promise further growth and prosperity in their bilateral relations across various fields. The relationship between Qatar and India is deeply rooted in history, shaped by centuries of trade, cultural exchanges, and mutual cooperation. These ties have evolved into a dynamic and strategic partnership, underpinned by strong economic, political, and socio-cultural connections. Leaderships from both nations remain committed to strengthening this partnership, enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple fields, and fostering people-to-people ties to serve their citizens and contribute to regional and global stability. India is Qatar’s second-largest trading partner, with trade exchanges averaging USD 16 billion annually. Over 20,000 Indian SMEs operate in Qatar, contributing significantly to the economy through joint ventures and fully owned enterprises. Qatar plays a crucial role in India’s energy security, supplying approximately 45% of India’s LNG imports. Beyond trade and energy, Qatar and India maintain robust partnerships in defense, labor, infrastructure, education, health, tourism, sports, and financial intelligence cooperation. Agreements and memoranda of understanding have been signed to strengthen these collaborations further, ensuring sustainable development and mutual prosperity. A strong Indian community of approximately 800,000 people in Qatar plays a crucial role in reinforcing the socio-economic bonds between the two nations. Their contributions span multiple industries, enhancing the cultural and commercial landscape in Qatar. The steady exchange of talent and expertise between the two nations continues to enrich their economies and strengthen their people-to-people connections. By fostering stronger trade ties, increasing investment opportunities, and enhancing cooperation in key sectors, Qatar and India are set to create a lasting impact on their economies and global standing. Their shared vision for peace, stability, and development will continue to guide this enduring and mutually beneficial relationship.

This would be the second visit of the Amir of Qatar to India
Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani will pay a state visit to India next week, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

Arriving in India on a two-day visit from February 17 to 18, the Qatar Amir will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ministers, senior officials, and a business delegation.

This would be the second visit of the Amir of Qatar to India. He earlier visited India on a state visit in March 2015.

During the visit, the Amir will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan on February 18, 2025.

During his visit, the Amir will hold discussions with President Droupadi Murmu, who will also host a banquet in his honour.

The Amir will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi covering various aspects of the bilateral relations.

India and Qatar have deep-rooted historical ties of friendship, trust and mutual respect.

In recent years, the ties between the two countries including in the areas of trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people ties have continued to strengthen.

The Indian community residing in Qatar forms the largest expatriate community of Qatar, and is appreciated for its positive contribution in the progress and development of Qatar.

The visit of the Amir will provide further momentum to our growing multifaceted partnership. India and Qatar share strong economic ties, especially in trade and investment. Qatar is one of India’s largest trade partners in the Gulf region.

However, a significant aspect of the India-Qatar relationship is the presence of a large Indian expatriate community in Qatar. This community plays a vital role in the economic and social life of the country.

India and Qatar maintain strong cooperation in terms of labour laws, rights, and welfare for the Indian workers in Qatar. India and Qatar have maintained close diplomatic relations, with regular visits at the leadership level, reinforcing political ties and expanding cooperation.

Qatar has often supported India in various international forums, and the two countries have shared positions on regional security matters. There is also mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and a focus on collaboration in multilateral organizations such as the United Nations.

The two countries have also enhanced their defense and security cooperation, particularly in counterterrorism efforts and maritime security. This has included joint military exercises and discussions on regional security challenges.

Cultural and people-to-people exchanges are growing, with an emphasis on education, sports, and tourism. Many Qataris travel to India for education and healthcare, while Indian institutions in Qatar foster academic and cultural links. In recent years, both countries have worked to enhance cooperation in emerging areas such as technology.

India-Qatar relations continue to be strong and multifaceted, encompassing trade, energy, labour, cultural ties, and diplomatic cooperation. The partnership is expected to grow even further as both countries look to capitalize on emerging opportunities, including in technology and regional security.

Qatar’s Ambassador to the Netherlands Participates in the Second Day’s Activities of Amsterdam Dialogue

HE Dr. Mutlaq bin Majid Al-Qahtani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, participated in the activities of the second day of the annual Amsterdam Dialogue.

During his participation in the dialogue, His Excellency touched upon the challenges and lessons learned from crisis and conflict management and the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully through mediation and negotiations, and not through military options or imposing external solutions.

HE the Ambassador stressed the continued efforts of the State of Qatar to find a solution to halt the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
